Bat N' Smash 2010  Volleyball Rules

  • Each game will be end at the earlier of 20 minutes or one team reaching 25 points or more and winning. Games will be scheduled in 30 minute blocks (20 minutes play and 10 minutes warm-up/switch over time).
  • Games will be self-refereed, if both teams cannot come to an agreement on a decision then the point shall be replayed. Any team deemed to be taking advantage of this situation may be disqualified from competition.
  • No alcohol is allowed on the volleyball courts or surrounding area, if any player is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol they can be removed from the remainder of the tournament without compensation.
  • There can be a maximum of 5 players on the court, at least 2 of those players must be female.
  • Players must rotate one position clockwise when the team receives the right to serve (side-out). There is a maximum of 5 serves per player, at which point the serving team must rotate.
  • If a ball is played onto the court from the adjacent court during a rally, the game should be stopped and current point replayed.
  • Points are scored according to the Rally Point System. Every rally, one team wins a point. The team that wins the point serves to begin the next rally.
  • The ball can contact the net during the serve, if the ball travels over the net and ends up in the opponent's court, it is legal.
  • A player may enter into the opponent's court during play provided that this does not interfere with the opponent's play.
  • Teams can decide who serve first either by flipping a coin or rallying for serve, this decision will must be made by both team captains.
  • At the conclusion of the game, BOTH captains are responsible for reporting the score of the game to the scorer's table. If the score is not received, the game will be considered a 0-0 draw.
  • Teams will be randomly divided into 6 divisions prior to the day of the tournament, each team will play the 4 other teams
  • Top 6 teams advance to the playoffs.
  • In the event of a tie in the division standings or overall standings the following tie-breakers will be used:
    • Head to head record (if applicable)
    • Points For
    • Points Against
    • Coin Toss
